Listen for specific information: Bingo
Main goal
Activating prior knowledge. Using top-down strategies. Listening for specific words.
Time: 15 minutes
Materials: Bingo boards, vocabulary cards
Level: easy
Technical requirements: offline
Warm-up/pre-listening
Ask students to brainstorm on “My best friend is…” Elicit personality adjectives.
Ask a student to be the secretary and write what they are told on the board.
Example adjectives:
Hand out slips of paper and ask students to copy the adjectives from the board on them.
Collect the papers and put them in a bag.
Ask students to choose nine adjectives from the board that describe their friends and write them in the Bingo grid.

While-listening
Ask students to listen carefully and cross words out when they listen to them.
Remind students that the winner is the one who crosses all words out first.
After one student wins, ask him/her to read the winning words.
Post-listening
Discuss the factors that facilitated playing this game:
- Listen carefully
- Pay attention
- Silence
- Asking for repetition.
Make a point that these factors will help them understand any Listening activity.
Extension activity:
Ask students to write three sentences about their best friends using some of these adjectives.
Invite students to share about their friends while their classmates:
Option 1: take notes on the adjectives used.
Option 2: listen and complete charts about the group’s best friends.
